EMBEDDED RESISTANCE AND CAPACITANCE TESTING
WHAT ARE EMBEDDED RESISTORS AND DO THEY NEED TO BE TESTED?
Embedded resistance is one of the important technologies adopted in miniaturization of printed circuit boards. The embedded resistors (also called buried resistors) are integrated in the printed circuit board.

There are many advantages of embedded resistors comparing to the discrete surface-mounted resistors:
- Improved analog signal quality (lower inductance)
- Frees up valuable board surface space
- Lower opportunity for assembly defects
- Improved board reliability
- Reduces board sizes
The thin film embedded resistor usually is formed by series of etching steps to define the resistor’s width and length, followed by other printed circuit board construction processes. All these processes will have an impact on the resistive material, which in turn causes resistance change. Therefore, the test on the final resistive value of embedded resistor is very important to the manufacturers.
